Phil Mickelson distinguished himself from his marquee playing partners on Friday morning, firing a 28 on his outward nine at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Playing alongside Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, Mickelson tallied seven birdies over his first nine holes at TPC Boston to turn with the early lead.

The left-hander tripped to a bogey at the first (his 10th), but knocked his approach within two feet and tapped in for eagle at the par-5 second to reach 8-under.

Mickelson flirted with 59 earlier this season at the Phoenix Open, where he came a horse-shoed putt away from reaching golf's magic number. He will likely fall short again Friday, as he parred four straight after his eagle to stay at minus-8 through 15 holes.

Woods is 3-under, while Scott, who won last week at the The Barclays, is 2- over.
