The New York Mets have placed outfielder Jason Bay and pitcher Mike Pelfrey on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced Tuesday.

Each player had an MRI taken Tuesday morning, revealing a nondisplaced fracture of a rib on the left side for Bay and swelling in the pitching elbow of Pelfrey.

Pelfrey's move is retroactive to April 22, and a course of treatment is pending a final diagnosis and possible second opinion.

Bay is hitting .240 with three home runs and five RBI in 15 games this season. Pelfrey holds a 2.29 earned run average over three starts this year.

The Mets recalled infielder Zach Lutz from Triple-A Buffalo and left-handed pitcher Robert Carson from Double-A Binghamton.

Lutz was batting .333 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 19 games for the Bisons this year while Carson holds a 3.18 ERA with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings with Binghamton.
