Guangzhou, China – Fourth-seeded Petra Martic was a straight- round winner Monday at the $220,000 Guangzhou International tennis event.
The Croatian Martic handled Taipei's Kai-Chen Chang 6-4, 6-4 on the hardcourts at Tianhe Sports Centre.
Other Day-1 action saw Poland's Urszula Radwanska top Aussie Anastasia Rodionova 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 and Thai Noppawan Lertcheewakarn best Chinese wild card Zheng Saisai 7-5, 6-0.
This week's top seeds are Russian Maria Kirilenko, Aussie Jarmila Gajdosova and last week's Tashkent titlist Ksenia Pervak of Russia. Gajdosova is the reigning Guangzhou champion, having beaten Russia Alla Kudryavtseva in last year's finale.
The 2011 Guangzhou titlist will collect $37,000.
