The Croatian Martic came from behind to beat Japanese Erika Sema 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, while the seventh-seeded former top-10 Aussie Dokic mauled Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic 6-3, 6-1 on the hardcourts at Kuala Lumpur's Bukit Kiara Resort.

Dokic topped Czech Lucie Safarova in last year's finale here to capture her first WTA title in nine years.

Additional opening-round wins came for Aussie Olivia Rogowska and Japan's Kurumi Nara and Misaki Doi.

The top seeds here are last week's Dubai champion Agnieszka Radwanska and former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic. The Polish Radwanska will open her stay against Uzbekistan's Akgul Amanmuradova, while the Serbian Jankovic will encounter Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia in the round of 32.

This week's champ will earn $37,000.
