The Miami Marlins optioned catcher Brett Hayes to Triple-A New Orleans and selected the contract of catcher Rob Brantly on Monday.

Hayes was demoted following Sunday's 5-0 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. On the season, Hayes hit .202 with three RBI in 39 games.

Brantly, who was acquired from the Detroit Tigers on July 23, has never appeared in a major league game. This season, he has hit .298 with 41 RBI between Double-A Erie, Triple-A Toledo and New Orleans.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Marlins transferred pitcher Sandy Rosario to the 60-day disabled list.
