Andalucia, Spain – Matteo Manassero fired an eight-under 64 stroke lead after the first round of the Open de Andalucia Costa del Sol.
Manassero, a two-time winner on the European Tour, carded nine birdies and one bogey during his round to match the course record. Lee Westwood and Fredrik Andersson Hed fired opening-round 64s during the 2007 edition, which Westwood went on to win.
Behind Manassero, five players share second after posting five-under 67s -- Eduardo De La Riva, Hennie Otto, Anthony Wall, Lloyd Kennedy and Niclas Fasth.
Pablo Larrazabal is in a group of six tied for seventh at minus-four.
