Malcolm Miller scored 27 points as conference-leading Southern University beat Mississippi Valley State 83-74 on Monday.

Southern (15-11, 11-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) bounced back after losing its second conference game on Saturday. Its other conference loss came against MVSU (72-64) on Jan. 22.

Calvin Godfrey had 17 points and 13 rebounds for Southern and YonDarius Johnson added 11.

DeAngelo Priar finished with 22 points, 10 from the free throw line, for Mississippi Valley State (8-18, 4-9). Jordan Washington and Jeffrey Simmons had 17 apiece for the Delta Devils.

Mississippi Valley State trailed 37-29 at halftime, but started out hot in the second half as Anthony McDonald and Washington hit back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the game at 43.

Trailing 58-57 with 6:36 left, Southern went on a late 13-2 run to pull away — with nine points from Miller.
