Malaga signed former Argentina striker Javier Saviola to a one-year deal Thursday.

Saviola, 30, was released by Benfica and passed a physical with Malaga to join the Spanish side. He scored 24 goals in 69 league appearances for Benfica.

He started his career at River Plate and moved to Europe in 2001 to Barcelona. He scored 49 goals in 123 La Liga matches for Barca and also spent time out on loan with Monaco and Sevilla. Saviola later played at Real Madrid from 2007-09 and joined Benfica in 2009.

Capped 40 times for Argentina, Saviola scored 11 international goals.
