Ohio State's loss was Oregon's gain Sunday as highly regarded Texas high schooler Tristen Wallace announced via Instagram he has left the Buckeyes' recruiting class in favor of the Ducks.

Wallace committed to Ohio State in March as a quarterback, but Scout.com rates him as the No. 7 athlete prospect in the country.

He completed 150 of 279 passes for 2,188 yards last season at DeSoto High School and ran for 1,401 yards.

The decision leaves Ohio State without a quarterback in its 2016 class, at least for now.

Per multiple reports, Urban Meyer and his staff hosted Potomac (Md.) The Bullis School quarterback Dwayne Haskins over the weekend. Haskins is a four-star prospect Scout rates the No. 11 quarterback in the country.

Haskins was among the quarterbacks the Buckeyes were recruiting before Wallace made his commitment in March. Haskins committed to Maryland in May, but since then Terrapins coach Randy Edsall was fired and the status of offensive coordinator and ace recruiter Mike Locksley is uncertain.

The game's most important position certainly has had an interesting recent history for the Buckeyes, who won the national championship last season despite losing two-time Big Ten MVP Braxton Miller to a shoulder injury in the preseason.

His return and that of 2014 heroes J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones made it appear the Buckeyes had an embarrassment of riches at the position heading into 2015. They also signed two four-star quarterbacks (Joe Burrow and Torrance Gibson) in February, making the future look bright.

But as 2015 winds down, Ohio State is starting to face some uncertainty for the future.

Miller moved to wide receiver for the past season and is out of eligibility. Jones has another year of eligibility but has indicated he is leaving Ohio State, be it to enter the NFL draft or perhaps a transfer.

Barrett has two years of eligibility left and a Big Ten Quarterback of the Year award and numerous records from 2014 on his résumé, but he also has two major injuries in his past: a broken lower leg in 2014 and torn knee ligaments that ended his high school career.

For next season, Ohio State is set to have former three-star prospect Stephen Collier as a sophomore along with Burrow and Gibson as redshirt freshmen, though Gibson's future may be at wide receiver.

Ohio State also has a verbal commitment for 2017 from Danny Clark, a four-star prospect who helped Akron Archbishop Hoban win the Ohio Division III state championship earlier this month.
