Lille, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Lille wasted an opportunity to reach second place in Ligue 1 on Sunday after the club suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Reims at the Grand Stade Lille Metropole.
Scoring chances were at a premium in a tightly-played opening 45 minutes and it was Reims that broke the deadlock after Odair Fortes gave his side the lead in the 73rd minute.
Grzegorz Krychowiak made it 2-0 for the visitors just three minutes later and they looked to be on their way to an easy three points. But Lille pulled one back through an Anthony Weber own goal two minutes from time.
The home side threw numbers forward as stoppage time approached, but the hosts were unable to produce an equalizer as Reims snuck away with a crucial three points.
The result leaves Lille in third place in Ligue 1 with 40 points, five behind league-leaders Paris Saint-Germain, while Reims climbs to seventh place on 32 points.
Also in Ligue 1 on Sunday, Ismael Bangoura netted a goal in the 89th minute to lift Nantes to a 1-0 result over Lorient, while Marseille struck for a pair of first-half goals in a 2-1 victory over Evian.
The hosts opened the scoring at the Parc des Sports as Modou Sougou found the back of the net on 15 minutes, but Marseille responded quickly as Benoit Cheyrou put the sides back on level terms seven minutes later before Andre- Pierre Gignac buried the winner in the 38th minute for the visitors.
