Lille, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Lille climbed to third place in the French top flight on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Sochaux at the Grand Stade Lille Metropole.

The home side was in front after just two minutes as Divock Origi broke the deadlock early on.

Lille clung to the narrow lead and staved off some pressure from Sochaux before adding an insurance goal deep into second half stoppage time through Ryan Mendes.

The win puts Lille on 44 points for the season, helping the club move three points clear of St. Etienne following its draw at Toulouse on Friday.

Sochaux remains second from bottom in the Ligue 1 table, staying put on 15 points.

Guingamp suffered a second straight league defeat on Saturday, falling at home to Reims in a 2-1 loss. Rachid Alioui had put the home side in front just after the hour mark, but Odair Fortes equalized in the 69th minute and Floyd Ayite grabbed the go-ahead goal three minutes later to help Reims snap a three-game winless run.

Marseille cruised to a 3-0 victory over Bastia on Saturday behind a first-half brace from Dimitri Payet, keeping the club in fifth place on 39 points. Andre- Pierre Gignac struck in the 55th minute of the match to put Marseille's victory beyond any doubt.

Also on Saturday, Ajaccio earned a 3-1 victory over Rennes for just its second Ligue 1 win of the season, Montpellier and Evian exchanged first-half goals en route to a 1-1 draw and Abdul Waris scored at the death for Valenciennes in its 2-1 defeat of Nice.
