Athens, Greece – AEK Athens announced Wednesday that Ewald Lienen has been appointed as the club's new coach.
Lienen replaces Vangelis Vlachos, who was fired by AEK last month after leading the club to just two points through its first six league matches, its worst-ever start to a Greek Super League season.
The 58-year-old previously coached Panionios from 2006 to 2008 and also Olympiakos in 2010, but also has enjoyed a long career in his native Germany with stints at Cologne, Borussia Monchengladbach, Hannover, 1860 Munich and Arminia Bielefeld.
