PHILADELPHIA – Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy won't be charged over a Philadelphia nightclub brawl that left two off-duty police officers injured.
District Attorney Seth Williams says he can't prove who initiated the fight and says it's legal to act in self-defense or the defense of others.
Defense lawyer Dennis Cogan says McCoy was only trying to break up a fight between the officers and his friends over a $350 bottle of Champagne.
Police have said the fight broke out over a misunderstanding about who had bought the bottle.
Authorities say one officer suffered a broken nose and broken ribs in the Feb. 7 fight.
The 27-year-old McCoy played for the Bills last season after six years with the Philadelphia Eagles. He could still face discipline from the NFL.
