Lazio continues top-three push against Milan

Rome, Italy ( - Lazio's pursuit of a Champions League place continues on Saturday at the Stadio Olimpico as the club entertains AC Milan.

Lazio enters the weekend in fifth place, two points adrift of a spot in the top three, and a win on Saturday would vault Stefano Pioli's club into third place.

The capital club dropped to fifth last weekend following a 1-0 home defeat to Napoli, but Pioli is hoping his side can rebound quickly and get back into the win column against a Milan side that has struggled in recent games.

With six wins in their previous eight home matches, Lazio will be confident against the Rossoneri, who have taking just one point from their last three league matches, including a 1-0 home defeat against bottom-half side Atalanta.

Milan is five points back of Lazio and needs a win on Saturday to get the club going back in the right direction as manager Filippo Inzaghi finds himself under increasing pressure to turn things around.

Lazio could hand a debut to new arrival Mauricio on Saturday after the club added the versatile defender on loan from Sporting Lisbon this week.

Napoli and Sampdoria are level on 33 points, just ahead of Lazio, and Napoli will host Genoa on Monday with the club having won three of its last four games in league play.

Sampdoria hosts Palermo on Sunday with the club eyeing a third straight win, while Fiorentina is just one point back of Lazio and faces a tough test against second-place Roma on home soil.

Juventus sits five points clear at the top of Serie A and the club will expect to collect another three points at home on Sunday against Chievo, which resides only three points above the drop zone.

Cagliari is three points from safety and hosts Sassuolo in the opening match of the weekend on Saturday, and Cesena entertains Parma in a battle of the bottom two sides in the league.

Hellas Verona hosts Atalanta with the two teams separated by one point, Inter Milan attempts to extend its unbeaten streak in the league to six games against Torino, and Empoli tangles with Udinese.
