Chicago Blackhawks star Andrew Shaw was under fire Tuesday night after a late-game meltdown in a Game 4 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Video showed Shaw appear to yell a gay slur from the penalty box, after he was whistled for a costly interference penalty in the final minutes of the 4-3 loss, which pushed the Blackhawks to the brink of elimination.

Shaw, who had a goal and two assists, was evasive afterward, saying "Emotions are high. I don't know what I said."

The You Can Play Project, a prominent gay rights group affiliated with the NHL, says it plans to reach out to the league "to assist in an appropriate response."
