Landry Jones: I needed to make more plays

Steelers quarterback Landry Jones feels like he left some plays on the field in his first NFL start Sunday, a 23-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

After reviving the Pittsburgh offense last week in relief of Mike Vick, Jones got the nod with both Vick and No. 1 quarterback Ben Roethlisberger still nursing injuries. Jones completed 16 of 29 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. He was also sacked twice and lost a fumble. While there were plenty of reasons for the loss, Jones was more than willing to accept the blame.

"I don't think I played very well," Jones said via Steelers.com. "I've gotta make more plays out there. I can't turn the ball over. There were so many opportunities to go out there and win that game ... I think if I took care of the ball today, we'd be right there in it. "

The first missed opportunity came on the second play of the game when Jones missed an open Martavis Bryant deep down the left sideline. Jones' first interception came just before halftime when he tried to finesse a pass over the middle to a crossing Martavis Bryant. Jones' pass didn't have enough air under it and was picked off by linebacker Derrick Johnson just past midfield. The Chiefs missed a long field goal on the ensuing drive, but Pittsburgh missed a chance to at least put three points on the board and make it 9-6 at the half.

Johnson also played a role in the second pick, tipping Jones' quick slant to Antonio Brown, who juggled it around before losing it to Chiefs safety Eric Berry.

On the bright side, Brown had his best game since Roethlisberger suffered his knee injury with six catches and 124 yards. He had 11 receptions for 111 yards in three games with Vick as the starter. Brown's numbers are likely to get even better next week against Cincinnati as Roethlisberger is expected to return from his four-game absence.
