Harrison, NJ – New York Red Bulls defender Stephen Keel has signed a new contract with the club, it was announced on Wednesday.
Keel enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2011 as he appeared in a career-high 16 games and chipped in two assists while starting all three of New York's postseason contests.
"Stephen had an excellent season last year and was a contributor in our postseason run," said Red Bulls general manager and sporting director Erik Soler. "He provides us a physical and experienced option in central defense and we are pleased that we were able to sign him to a new contract."
The 28-year-old began his career with the Colorado Rapids and featured in 10 matches for the club before moving on to then-USL First Division side Portland Timbers, where he played in 53 matches from 2009-10.
