Kaiserslautern signs manager Kurz to extension

Kaiserslautern signed manager Marco year contract extension Tuesday.

Kurz, 42, had a contract through the current campaign, but signed the new deal to tie him to the club until the summer of 2013. He has coached Kaiserslautern since 2009, leading the club back to the Bundesliga last season.

Kaiserslautern finished seventh in its return to Germany's top flight after a four-year absence, and club executive director Stefan Kuntz believes Kurz will keep the club in the Bundesliga.

"We have one of the best managers in the league and want to continue with him. "We are confident he will keep us in the Bundesliga this season," Kuntz said, "and he will help us plan for the future."

Kaiserslautern has just one win through eight matches, but "through hard work, we want to establish the club in the Bundesliga," Kurz said.
