K-State adds men's hoops title to football title, Olympic silver medalist during big year
MANHATTAN, Kan. – It's been a big year for Kansas State sports.
The Wildcats under new coach Bruce Weber wrapped up a share of its first conference title in men's basketball in 36 years over the weekend, tying with nine-time champion Kansas. The 11th-ranked Wildcats will be the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament at the Sprint Center this week.
The title follows a surprising conference championship by Bill Snyder and the football team, and an Olympic silver medal won by high jumper Erik Kynard.
Beyond that, the school recently opened a new basketball training facility, and the football stadium is in the midst of a $75 million renovation and expansion. Says Kansas State president Kirk Schulz, "I'm enjoying every minute of it."
