HOUSTON – Julysses Nobles had 21 points on Monday night and made two free throws with 5 seconds left to secure Jackson State's 75-73 win at Texas Southern.
Nobles also gave Jackson State (9-16, 5-8 Southwestern Athletic Conference) the lead for good at 69-67 on two free throws with 2:04 to go.
Derell Taylor followed with a jumper for JSU at the 1:17 mark and extended the lead to five on two free throws with 12 seconds left.
D.D. Scarver hit a 3-pointer with 7 seconds left to pull Texas Southern (10-14, 6-6) within 73-71 before sending Nobles to the line where his free throws put the game out of reach.
Javeres Brent scored 16 for Jackson State, including the 3-pointer that pulled JSU even at 67. Janarius Middleton added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Scarver led Texas Southern with 15 points, and Aaric Murray had 14 points and 11 rebounds
