Florham Park, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Jets hired former NFL head coach Chan Gailey as their new offensive coordinator on Tuesday.

The move came six days after the Jets hired Todd Bowles as head coach amid a top-down overhaul following the firing of general manager John Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan last month.

Gailey, 63, coached the Dallas Cowboys from 1998-99 and the Buffalo Bills from 2010-12, compiling a record of 34-46. He was fired as coach of the Bills in December 2012 following a third consecutive losing season.

He's held numerous other jobs on coaching staffs at the NFL and college level during a 40-year career, including stints as offensive coordinator for Denver, Pittsburgh, Miami and Kansas City in the NFL.

The Jets will introduce Bowles and new general manager Mike Maccagnan during a news conference on Wednesday morning.
