Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Mark Scheifele scored 1:04 into overtime to give the Winnipeg Jets a 2-1 decision over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Blake Wheeler had the Jets' regulation goal before later setting up Scheifele's game-winner to help Winnipeg complete a successful six-game road trip with a 4-2-0 record. Al Montoya did his part between the pipes for Winnipeg, turning aside 28-of-29 shots in the triumph.

"I thought Montoya played really strong," said Jets head coach Claude Noel. "He battled back hard."

Nate Thompson accounted for the Lightning's lone tally, with Anders Lindback coming up with 34 saves in a losing cause.

Montoya kept the Jets alive by making 12 saves during a scoreless third period in which Tampa Bay recorded twice as many shots, and Scheifele gave his team the two points by crashing the net and successfully tipping in Wheeler's well- placed centering feed just 64 seconds into the extra session.

"It was a great pass by Wheeler," Scheifele said. "He was able to find my stick and I owe it all to him."

The goal came just moments after the Lightning's Alex Killorn struck the post on a breakaway when beating Winnipeg defenseman Tobias Enstrom to a loose puck in the neutral zone.

Wheeler sent Winnipeg in front just 5:25 in, re-directing a long drive from Jacob Trouba past Lindback. The Jets had chances to extend the margin later on in the first period, but Lindback made 14 saves and the Lightning killed off three penalties during the frame.

It remained a 1-0 game until the final stages of the second period. Following a Tampa Bay faceoff win, Thompson slipped a quick shot by Montoya just two seconds prior to the intermission.

"I was actually a little mad when I got kicked out of the faceoff circle, but it ended up working out for me," said Thompson of the goal.

Game Notes

Wheeler's goal was the 100th of his career ... Lightning defenseman Radko Gudas returned from a five-game absence caused by an upper-body injury and assisted on Thompson's score, while fellow blueliner Eric Brewer (lower body) was also back after sitting out Tampa Bay's last two outings ... Jets forward Evander Kane missed a third straight game with a lower-body issue ... Winnipeg improved to 8-3-1 against Eastern Conference teams this season.
