WINNIPEG - Downtown Winnipeg has erupted into a red, white and blue party with the news that the Jets — whatever they will be called — are coming home.

Thousands gathered in the public square at The Forks downtown and watched the announcement on a big screen.

Many wore old Jets jerseys, caps or buttons, even though the ownership group says it hasn't decided on a name for the NHL team.

Wearing a hockey helmet, a Jets jersey and a Canadian flag cape, fan Braden Hill said Winnipeg's spirit is back.

Another fan, Jason Loewen, says part of the city's heart was lost when the Jets left 15 years ago.

There may have been love for the Jets in the square, but it didn't extend to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman — fans booed and chanted "Bettman sucks" when he appear on the screen.
