Sporting Lisbon has confirmed that Leonardo Jardim will take over as manager next season, replacing Jesualdo Ferreira, who was let go by the club on Sunday.

Sporting endured a disappointing season, finishing in seventh place and 36 points back of champions FC Porto.

Jardim enjoyed spells in charge of Portuguese clubs Beira Mar and Braga before leaving for Greece in 2012 to manage Olympiakos.

Ferreira joined Sporting in an administrative position prior to the start of this season, but he took over as manager for Franky Vercauteren in January after a poor run of results.
