Auckland, New Zealand (SportsNetwork.com) - Second-seeded Serb Ana Ivanovic, third-seeded Belgian Kirsten Flipkens and American Venus Williams were second-round winners on Wednesday at the season-opening ASB Classic tennis event.
Ivanovic needed just under 44 minutes to dispatch Sweden's Johanna Larsson 6-1, 6-1, while Flipkens had little trouble in her match against Karolina Pliskova in a 6-4, 6-3 win on the hardcourts at ASB Tennis Centre.
Williams dropped the first set, but rallied to take the final two in a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Austria's Yvonne Meusburger.
Fifth-seeded American Jamie Hampton was a straight-set winner thanks to a 6-3, 6-4 victory over qualifier Kristyna Pliskova.
Other second-round winners included Spain's Garbine Muguruza, Japan's Sachie Ishizu and Kurumi Nara and American Lauren Davis.
