IndyCar fines Saavedra, Rahal team, places Power and Bourdais on probation after Detroit

IndyCar has issued $40,000 in fines and placed two drivers on probation for incidents at Detroit last weekend.

Sebastian Saavedra was fined $30,000 for making an obscene gesture at Marco Andretti, an incident caught on live television. IndyCar said Thursday Saavedra can pay the fine or work it off by making appearances on behalf of the series.

Will Power was placed on probation for the rest of the year for throwing his gloves at Sebastien Bourdais. And Bourdais was placed on probation for comments made toward officials on pit road after an accident.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing was fined $10,000 for a pair of technical violations on the car of James Jakes, who finished second Sunday. IndyCar last week rescinded a $10,000 fine levied against Jakes in the Indianapolis 500.
