LONG POND, Pa. – IndyCar driver Jack Hawksworth will miss Sunday's race at Pocono with a heart contusion.
Hawksworth was injured on Saturday in an accident during the second practice session.
He was evaluated and released from the infield care center. Hawksworth was later transported to a local hospital where he stayed overnight for observation.
Hawksworth will be re-evaluated by the IndyCar medical team before being cleared to drive in next week's race at Iowa Speedway.
The 23-year driver from Bradford, England was coming off a season-best third-place finish at Houston. After his practice accident, he did not make a qualifying attempt.
"Just a little bit sore. I think I'll be cleared to drive, so that's not a problem," he said.
