Indians sign Sizemore to one-year deal

Cleveland, OH – Grady Sizemore is staying in Cleveland after time All-Star center fielder to a year contract.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but MLB.com on Wednesday reported it to be worth $5 million with incentives that could push the entire package to as much as $9 million.

The Indians declined their $9 million option on Sizemore several weeks ago after another injury-riddled campaign for the franchise star.

Sizemore, who hasn't played more than 106 games in each of the last three years, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee after last season, though he should be ready for spring training.

The 29-year-old is several years removed from his best years, when he played at least 157 games in four straight seasons from 2005-08. He hit 107 homers during the stretch with an average on-base percentage better than .371.

He opened this past season on the disabled list after having microfracture surgery on his left knee and also missed two weeks in May with a right knee contusion.

Sizemore suffered another contusion in July, had surgery to repair a sports hernia on July 21 and played just 71 games, batting .224 with 10 homers and an OBP of .285.

He is a career .269 hitter in 892 games -- all with Cleveland -- and is the only player in club history with 200 doubles, 100 homers and 100 stolen bases.
