Bronx, NY – Cleveland Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was helped off the field with a strained right quadriceps during Monday's game against the New York Yankees.
Cabrera stumbled while running to first base on a groundout in the top of the fifth inning, then fell to the ground immediately after running past the bag. The two-time All-Star was unable to put any weight on his right leg while walking slowly to the dugout with the aid of both Indians manager Terry Francona and team trainer Lonnie Soloff.
Mike Aviles moved from second base to shortstop to start the bottom of the fifth, with Jason Kipnis replacing Cabrera in the batting order.
Cabrera entered the game batting .256 with five home runs and 25 RBI, and was 0-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt in three plate appearances on Monday.
