Indiana State extends Sanford through 2019

Terre Haute, IN ( - Indiana State's big turnaround in 2014 has helped football coach Mike Sanford earn a contract extension.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference program announced Friday that Sanford's contract has been extended through the 2019 season.

In his second season with the Sycamores, Sanford led them to a seven-win improvement - the largest in Division I - and their 8-6 record included their first FCS playoff appearance since 1984 and first postseason win (over Eastern Kentucky) since 1983. They also defeated FBS member Ball State during the regular season.

"We have laid a great foundation in our march to achieving our goals. We are pressing forward to take this program to the MVFC and national championship level," Sanford said.
