CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Danny Hultzen used his last start as a pitcher before Monday's baseball draft to showcase all he will bring to the team that selects him.
The left-handed Hultzen (11-3) allowed three hits and one run in seven innings and struck out 12 as Virginia, the top national seed, routed St. John's 10-2 in a winner's bracket game in the Charlottesville Regional.
Hultzen also went 2 for 3 with an RBI before coming out of the lineup.
The Cavaliers (51-9) tied their school record for victories in a season and can wrap up the regional Sunday when they play the winner of a St. John's-East Carolina elimination game.
Steven Proscia hit a two-run homer in the first, a double in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth as the Cavaliers knocked out Kyle Hansen (8-7) after just 4 1-3 innings.
