Manchester, England – Mexican striker Javier Hernandez has year deal with Manchester United, agent Eduardo Hernandez said Thursday.
The 23-year-old Hernandez had 20 goals in all competitions in his first season at United and the former Guadalajara player has been rewarded for his play. He is the 13th United player to agree to a long-term contract in the last year.
"We have renegotiated Javier's contract and he is now committed for five years with Manchester United," Eduardo Hernandez said, according to the Guardian.
Hernandez was linked with a transfer to Real Madrid, but Eduardo Hernandez was clear there was never any contact with the Spanish club.
"It was never likely that Javier would leave," he said. "Talks began some time ago and United came up with a very good offer and I have nothing but praise for the way [Manchester United] have recognized Javier's performances."
Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Defending English Premier League champion United is unbeaten after seven games this season with six wins and a draw, and returns from the international break on Saturday at Liverpool.
