WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Khalid Hart's 3-pointer gave Marist the lead in double overtime and the Red Foxes held on from the free throw line in the closing seconds to defeat Monmouth, 96-92 Sunday.
Chevaughn Lewis converted two free throws with 7 seconds left and Manny Thomas hit the second of two to seal the win.
Marist was scoreless after taking a 10-point lead on a jumper by Hart with 4:27 in regulation. Andrew Nicholas had back-to-back layups to tie the game at 71-71 and force overtime. The Red Foxes took a six-point lead in the first overtime only to have the Hawks close with a 7-1 run and knot the game on Nicholas' 3-pointer with 9 seconds left.
Lewis finished with 28 points to lead Marist (11-15, 8-8 Metro Atlantic), with Hart adding 26 and Jay Bowie 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Deon Jones scored 27 points to lead Monmouth (10-17, 4-12).
