Shenzhen, China (SportsNetwork.com) - Simona Halep of Romania and Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland were straight set winners on Friday in the semifinals of the season-opening Shenzhen Open.
The top-seeded Halep had little trouble with local crowd favorite Zheng Saisai, posting a 6-2, 6-3 win while No. 8 Bacsinszky managed to upset second- seeded Petra Kvitova, 6-4, 6-4.
Li Na won the title in 2013 and 2014 at Shenzhen, which serves as a tune-up for the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam of the season will begin Jan. 19 in Melbourne.
