Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Montreal Canadiens will honor former defenseman Guy Lapointe early in the upcoming season.

Lapointe's No. 5 will be raised to the rafters on Nov. 8, before the Habs welcome the Minnesota Wild at Bell Centre. He will become the 18th member of the storied franchise to have a jersey retirement ceremony, and the first since Emile Bouchard and Elmer Lach in December 2009.

A native of Montreal, Lapointe skated for his hometown club in 13 of his 15 NHL seasons, winning Stanley Cups on six occasions between 1971 and 1979. He compiled 166 goals and 572 points over 777 regular-season games and contributed 25 goals and 43 assists in 112 playoff appearances for the Canadiens.
