Gulbis, Sock among Stockholm winners

Stockholm, Sweden ( - Ernests Gulbis and American Jack Sock were among the first-round winners Tuesday at the Stockholm Open.

The fifth-seeded Gulbis went the distance in a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Frenchman Jeremy Chardy. The Latvian was playing for the first time since capturing his second title of 2013 last month in St. Petersburg, Russia. He also won at Delray Beach in March.

Next up for Gulbis will be Dutchman Igor Sjisling, a Monday first-round winner over Tobias Kamke.

Sock thumped Australia's Bernard Tomic, 6-4, 6-2, setting up a second-round match with top-seeded David Ferrer. The Spaniard and the other three top seeds received first-round byes.

Swedish qualifier Joachim Johansson cruised past Colombia's Alejandro Falla, 6-1, 6-3, and will face second-seeded Canadian Milos Ranoic in the second round, while Spain's Gullermo Garcia-Lopez struggled to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win over German qualifier Nils Langer and will next take on third-seeded Jerzy Janowicz of Poland.

Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff rolled to a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Swedish qualifier Milos Sekulic and will next play Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Romanian challenger Marius Copil.

This week's titlist will earn $130,000.
