Dortmund, Germany – Mario Gotze signed a two-year contract extension Tuesday that will keep him with Borussia Dortmund until 2016.
The 19-year-old midfielder is one of the best young German internationals, and had been linked to transfers away from the Bundesliga champions. He had a deal through 2014, but the extension likely means he will remain with Dortmund.
Dortmund has followed its championship season with another strong year, as it sits atop the German standings with a five-point cushion over Bayern Munich.
"Everyone knows how comfortable I am in Dortmund," Gotze said. "I want to be a part of this evolution."
Gotze resumed training this week after an injury that had sidelined him since early December. Capped 12 times for Germany already, Gotze has five goals and five assists in just 14 appearances for Dortmund this season.
Dortmund is unbeaten in its last 21 games, a league record. Dortmund will host Stuttgart on Friday in its next league match.
