The New York Giants were hoping to add another element to their offense when they signed free agent running back Shane Vereen this offseason, and his addition has done just that. Vereen has become an excellent receiving threat out of the backfield, and he enjoyed his best game of the season in the Giants' Week 5 30-27 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Vereen played a major role in the passing game -- specifically in the fourth quarter when wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle were sidelined with injuries. He finished the game having secured 8-of-8 targets for 86 yards receiving and a touchdown. He also added 24 rushing yards on just five carries.

Vereen has shown an excellent ability to read defensive coverages and find the open space. He has excellent hands, excellent vision, and he can create after the catch. If the Giants are forced to sit Beckham, Randle or both in Week 6, look for Vereen to play a key role in the passing game.
