New York, NY – San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval has been named the National League Player of the Week for the period ending September 18.
Sandoval led the Major Leagues in slugging percentage (1.120) and total bases (28), and tied for the league lead in RBI (10), home runs (four) and triples (two) to earn his first career weekly award.
On Friday, Sandoval hit for the cycle, marking the 25th time in Giants franchise history a player recorded the feat. Despite missing 40 games with a hamate bone fracture earlier in the season, he leads the playoff-hopeful Giants with 22 homers and 67 RBI.
Other noteworthy performances last week included Sandoval's teammate and outfielder Carlos Beltran, Milwaukee's one-two punch of Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder, the New York Mets' Lucas Duda, Atlanta's Alex Gonzalez and Philadelphia staff ace Roy Halladay.
