Warsaw, Poland (SportsNetwork.com) - Poland recorded its first-ever win over Germany on Saturday as a 2-0 victory at Warsaw National Stadium lifted the hosts to the top of Group D through two games of their Euro 2016 qualification slate.
After a scoreless opening period, Poland took the lead through Arkadiusz Milik in the 51st minute.
Germany had numerous chances to get back on level terms but could not find a way past Wojciech Szczesny.
The World Cup-winners would be left to rue their inefficiency as Sebastian Mila recorded the knockout blow for Poland two minutes from time, handing Germany its first loss in qualifying play since it fell to the Czech Republic in October 2007.
Poland improves to six points, leaving the club marginally ahead of Ireland on goal difference.
Ireland also moved to six points after it claimed a comfortable 7-0 win over Gibraltar on Saturday. Robbie Keane netted a hat trick inside the opening 18 minutes of the match while James McClean added a brace to seal the win.
In Saturday's third Group D contest, Scotland edged Georgia, 1-0, behind a first-half own goal from Akaki Khubutia.
Northern Ireland climbed to the top of Group F by claiming a 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands on Saturday. Gareth McAuley and Kyle Lafferty provided the goals in the victory, both of which came inside the opening 20 minutes.
Elsewhere in Group F, Greece earned a point from a 1-1 draw at Finland while Romania was held to a 1-1 home draw by Hungary.
And in Group I, Serbia got off the mark with a 1-1 draw at Armenia while Denmark was held to a 1-1 draw at Albania.
