The German duo of Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy captured their fourth pairs title at the World Figure Skating Championships on Friday.

Savchenko and Szolkowy finished with a score of 201.49, edging Russia's Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov by 0.11 points. Volosozhar and Trankov were eighth after the short program but posted a top score of 140.90 in the free skate to earn silver for the second straight year.

Last year's world champs, Savchenko and Szolkowy had the lead heading into the free skate following a score of 68.63 in the short program. They had the second-best free skate score.

Savchenko and Szolkowy also won gold at the Worlds in 2008 and 2009.

Japan's Narumi Takahashi and Mervin Tran won bronze.
