NEW YORK (Reuters) - Free-agent forward Rudy Gay has accepted a five-year, $82 million deal to remain with the Memphis Grizzlies, local media reported Friday.
The 6-foot-8 (2.03m), four-year NBA veteran has career averages of 17.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, all with the Grizzlies. He scored 19.6 points a game last season.
While teams and players are currently free to negotiate, contracts cannot officially be signed until next Thursday.
Gay is a restricted free-agent, meaning Memphis could match any offer presented by another team. But since Gay already plays for the Grizzlies, they were allowed to offer the 23-year-old more money than any other club.
