Greensboro, NC – Tommy Gainey and Jeff Quinney both fired under 63s Thursday and share a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the Wyndham Championship.
Gainey and Quinney, who have both won on the Nationwide Tour, are both looking for their first PGA Tour titles.
Stuart Appleby, who has played all 72 holes in just two of his last 14 starts, is alone in third place at minus-six at Sedgefield Country Club.
Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, Paul Casey and Ernie Els are among 10 players tied for fourth at five-under 65.
The FedExCup Playoffs start next week and Els (No. 126) and Casey (No. 147) would both miss out if they don't get inside the top 125 on the points list.
Furyk and Singh have won two of the four FedExCups.
