The Kansas City Royals released outfielder Jeff Francoeur on Friday.

Francouer was designated for assignment on June 30 after batting .208 with three home runs and 19 RBI in 59 games this season for the Royals.

The 29-year-old has a career average of .264 with 140 homers and 614 RBI over nine seasons with Kansas City, Texas, the New York Mets and Atlanta.

The former first-round pick is now a free agent and able to sign with any team.
