Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - For the first time this year, Rickie Fowler has taken the lead in a major championship. He birdied three in a row from the third on Sunday to move to 13-under par at the PGA Championship. Henrik Stenson joined Fowler in the lead with a birdie on the seventh.
Fowler has finished inside the top-5 at each of the seasons first three majors, but is still looking for his first major championship title.
The 2012 Wells Fargo Championship winner drove into the water on No. 2 and that led to a bogey. He dropped his tee shot to three feet at the third. Fowler kicked that in for birdie, then made a 6-footer for birdie at the fourth.
Fowler chipped in for birdie from just off the edge of the fifth green for birdie and the lead at minus-13. Fowler, who is two groups behind Stenson, is playing the par-5 seventh after making par at six.
Stenson got off to a quick start with birdies at the first and third. He knocked his approach within tap-in range on the fifth, and made that for birdie to move to 12-under.
The Swede was tied for the lead then, and joined Fowler at minus-13 with a 2- putt birdie on the seventh. Stenson made a 9-foot par putt on the eighth to keep a share of the lead.
Phil Mickelson is alone in third at minus-12. He is 2-under through six holes.
Rory McIlroy is 2-over par for his round with bogeys at the third and sixth. He shares fourth place at 11-under par with Bernd Wiesberger, Ernie Els and Mikko Ilonen.
Overall, there are 23 players within five strokes of the lead.
