MIAMI -- A hard foul ball at Marlins Park has struck a woman's hand as she was feeding her toddler.
The woman got an ice pack from paramedics, but needed no further medical attention Sunday during the game between the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins.
Herbie Ortiz was feeding 17-month-old son Jose in the seat next to her when Miami's Dee Gordon lined a foul over the Miami dugout in the third inning. The ball hit a seat several rows in front of the family of five and caromed right toward the child.
The mom from Lake Worth said she and her son caught a lucky break.
"I was leaning over to feed him, and the next thing I know the ball was coming right at him," she said. "Thank God it hit the hand I was holding his mixed vegetables in."
Gordon gave a bat to the Ortiz family. Earlier in the week, Gordon gave a bat to a 93-year-old woman he hit with a foul.
Several fans have across the majors have been injured by fouls this season. Major League Baseball has said it is studying the issue.
