Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his position as Cardiff manager, ending the former Manchester United striker's first coaching job in British football after nine months.

Cardiff, which was relegated from the English Premier League under Solskjaer last season, says in a statement released Thursday that the Norwegian coach has "stepped down ... with immediate effect following recent discussions."

The Welsh club has lost three of its first seven games in the second-tier League Championship.

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan says "regrettably our recent results do not justify Ole's continued role as manager at Cardiff."
