Alex Webster, who was a New York Giants running back for 10 seasons, then their head coach for five, has died. He was 80.
The Giants said Webster died Saturday in Port St. Lucie Hospital in Florida.
Webster rushed for 4,638 yards and 39 touchdowns for the Giants from 1955 to 1964 and won an NFL Championship in 1956. He also caught 240 passes for 17 TDs and 2,679 yards.
As a head coach, Webster went 29-40-1 from 1969-73. He was inducted into the Giants Ring of Honor Dec. 4.
The Giants said Webster's wife died in 2009.
