MIAMI (Reuters) - Former Chicago Bears safety Dave Duerson, a key member of the team that won the 1985 Super Bowl, has died, police said on Friday.
Duerson, 50, was found dead Thursday night at his home in Miami, said detective Robert Williams, a spokesman for the Miami Dade Police Department.
No immediate cause of death was given.
A four-time Pro Bowler with the Bears, Duerson played 11 years in the NFL, including seven in Chicago, before moving on to the New York Giants for one season and the Phoenix Cardinals, now known as the Arizona Cardinals, for three.
He also won the Super Bowl in 1990 as a reserve during his lone season with the Giants.
Duerson, a third-round draft pick by the Bears in 1983, retired from the NFL after the 1993 season with 20 career interceptions.
"We are stunned and saddened to hear the tragic news regarding Dave Duerson," the Bears said in a statement.
"He was a great contributor to our team and the Chicago community. Today is a difficult day for all of us who loved Dave. We'll miss him."
