PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - The Philadelphia Flyers agreed a multi-year contract extension with Jeff Carter on Saturday, which local media said would net the center $58 million over 11 seasons.
Carter is tied for 10th in goals scored in the NHL this season with eight, and has 14 points in 16 games.
"You need guys that can score and Jeff has a knack to score and I look forward to seeing him score lots of goals over the next number of years," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said in a media release.
While the Flyers did not disclose the terms of the deal the Philadelphia Daily News said that the contract was for 11 seasons and $58 million.
Carter, 25, has played his entire career with the Flyers and has scored 153 goals and 291 points in 397 games.
He enjoyed a standout season in 2008-09 when he claimed a career-high 46 goals, 38 assists and 84 points.
"We're happy to have Jeff signed for the foreseeable future," Holmgren said. "He's an integral part of the core of our hockey team. This took a little bit of time to get done, but we're happy to have it done."
